Study Summary and Goals

The Galveston Study provides analysis and recommendations for infill development, land use, and infrastructure investments to revitalize a 15-block segment of Downtown Galveston. Specifically, the study recommends:

  • Encouraging neighborhood character and walkability with a wayfinding program, redesigned streets, a neighborhood grocery store, and a new civic plaza.
  • Investing in connectivity with a high-frequency streetcar network, streetscape improvements between Downtown and UTMB, and bike infrastructure that connects to the Seawall.
  • Rezoning the area to enable mixed-use development and create a new economic development entity to implement the plan recommendations.
