FM 1942 Turn Lanes
Chambers County
FM 1942
Hatherville Rd., SH 146
The facility had 31 crashes, 1 serious injuries and 0 fatalities during the period from 2015 to 2017. The truck volume on the facility is roughly 543 trucks per day and this represents 4.7% percent of the facility's AADT. The existing roadway consists of two travel lanes (one in each direction) with minimal shoulders. The subject section of FM 1942 serves numerous industrial facilities / refineries.
Increase pavement width and add left turn bays; Widen to 3-lane section. Add cost % increase due to high number of pipelines in the area. The assumption is any ROW needed will impact existing pipelines.
The purpose of this project is to reduce crashes, serious injuries and fatalities on this facility; reduce congestion on the facility and improve the reliability of peak-period travel times; improve pavement condition on the facility and increase its pavement rating on this facility. By providing turn lanes, the proposed project should improve safety by reducing the potential for rear-end collisions, and it should reduce congestion by eliminating queuing for turns.
