Project Information
US 90 Trinity River Truss Bridge
Liberty County
US 90
At Trinity River
The existing facility was constructed in 1930 and is in need of significant repairs to the truss section and approach spans to preserve its structural integrity. The bridge is not currently in service and is not eligible for Category 6 bridge funds. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996 for engineering. The structure served as the US 90 crossing of the Trinity River until it was replaced by the current structure on US 90 crossing the river. Preserving this historic structure is of great interest to the Historic Bridge Foundation, to Liberty County, to the Texas Historical Commission, and to the Liberty County Historical Commission.
Liberty Historic Truss Bridge Rehabilitation. The proposed rehabilitation would restore the structural integrity of the truss and approach spans and allow the structure to be used by pedestrians and bicyclist.
The purpose of this project is to preserve this cultural resource for future pedestrian and / or bicycle use. Preserving this historic structure meets the H-GAC's 2040 RTP goal of conserving and protecting natural and cultural resources. It would also provide an alternative safe crossing of the Trinity River for pedestrians and bicyclists.

A thorough condition assessment has been conducted on the structure. It includes recommendations for rehab of the structure and its approaches. There is great support from Liberty County and the State and local historical commissions for this historic structure to be rehabilitated and preserved.

This project involves rehabilitating the US 90 LIberty Truss Bridge that is immediately adjacent to the US 90 main lanes. The rehabilitated structure would improve bike and pedestrian LOS by providing an alternate route for bicyclist and pedestrians to cross the Trinity River. It would also improve safety for bicyclist and pedestrians by providing a path across the river that is free of vehicular traffic.
