SH 146 Widening and Intersection Improvements

Liberty County

SH 146

1.9 miles N of SL 227, US 90

The facility had 56 crashes, 1 serious injuries and 2 fatalities during the period from 2015 to 2017. Improving congestion on this facility could save users in excess of 17,000 hours of travel time per lane-mile. Congestion is adversely affecting the travel time and reliability for freight movement. The average pavement rating for the routes is 2.1. The truck volume on the facility is roughly 4,030 trucks per day and this represents 22.3% percent of the facility's AADT. The existing facility consists of two travel lanes (one in each direction) with ten foot shoulders.

Widen 2 lane sections to 4 lanes, add turn lanes, and diamond grind pavement

The purpose of this project is to reduce crashes, serious injuries and fatalities; reduce congestion on the facility and improve the reliability of peak-period travel times; reduce congestion and improve travel time reliability for freight movement on this facility. By providing turn lanes, the proposed project should improve safety by reducing rear-end collisions and reduce congestion by eliminating queuing at cross roads. The proposed additional lanes should help the facility accommodate future increasing traffic volumes.
