Installation of Arterial Intelligent Transportation Systems on Spur 10
Fort Bend County
Spur 10
IH69 to SH 36 South
The project will provide necessary expanded coverage of existing incident management, congestion management, and traveler information systems infrastructure for the TxDOT Houston District (TranStar) region. This improvement project will also allow TranStar to move closer to achieving district-wide integrated coverage by providing a needed communications link between SH 36, designated as an evacuation route, and IH 69.
This project will involve instrumentation of Spur 10 with Intelligent Transportation Management Systems devices to improve real-time monitoring and reporting capabilities. Specifically, this project will include the installation of approximately 5 miles of fiber optic communications cable, closed circuit cameras, dynamic message signs and travel time readers. Additionally, this ITS segment improvement will better serve an existing regional evacuation route and eventually provide fiber optic communication redundancy.
This project will improve real-time incident detection, responsiveness, notification, real time monitoring, and incident response. This will project will contribute to identifying recurring and non-recurring congestion, creating reliable travel times to improve safety, efficiency, and improving the quality of life for road users experiencing delays.
