SH 288/Rodeo Palms Pkwy Grade Separation
Brazoria County
SH 288
At Rodeo Palms Pkwy
SH 288 traverses Harris and Brazoria Counties between Houston and Freeport and provides a vital route for commuters, freight and commercial trucking, and is a hurricane evacuation route. Population increases associated with new residential subdivisions within the area of the SH 288 corridor have increased the number of vehicles using the highway as a primary travel route along much of the corridor. Residential and commercial development is projected to continue in the area over the next 20 years. As travel demand increases, mobility is projected to deteriorate to unacceptable levels with congestion extending south to SH 6 and eventually to CR 60. The current SH 288/Rodeo Palms Pkwy intersection is an at-grade intersection which creates mobility, safety, and roadway efficiency issues. Improving congestion on this facility could save users in excess of 70,000 hours of travel time per lane-mile. Congestion is adversely affecting the travel time and reliability for freight movement. The truck volume on the facility is roughly 6,051 trucks per day and this represents 8.0% percent of the facility's AADT.
Construct grade separation at SH 288 and Rodeo Palms Pkwy
Continued growth and congestion warrant the replacement of the at-grade intersection at SH 288/Rodeo Palms Pkwy with an overpass. The construction of this grade separation will improve mobility, reduce congestion, improve safety, and allow SH 288 and Rodeo Palms Pkwy to operate more efficiently and reliably.
