HOUSTON, TX – On March 25, 2023, the River, Lakes, Bays ‘N Bayous Trash Bash® (Trash Bash®) invites volunteers to participate in its 29th annual cleanup of the Galveston Bay watershed. Trash Bash® is proud of its heritage as the largest, single-day, waterway cleanup in Texas.

Thanks to more than 117,000 volunteers, over 2,400 tons of trash, 22.5 tons of recycling, and 11,965 tires have been removed from the watershed since Trash Bash® started. Multiple cleanup locations are available across the greater Houston area, and volunteers are encouraged to come “clean it like you mean it!”®

In 2023, volunteers will also have the chance to do that at a new site on Greens Bayou. The cleanup is open to all ages and welcomes individuals, families, scouts, and other groups. Registration is now open for all cleanup sites. Cleanup supplies are provided, each volunteer receives an event t-shirt and lunch, and commemorative patches are available for scouts and collectors.

“The fact that Trash Bash has been such a successful cleanup event for 29 years now is a result of the wonderful volunteers who come out each March to help keep our waterways clean and beautiful,” said Lori Traweek, president of the nonprofit Texas Conservation Fund, which manages Trash Bash® with administrative support by the Houston-Galveston Area Council, Gulf Coast Authority, and a volunteer steering committee.

Trash Bash® would also like to thank the sponsors who continue to show their support for the event and commitment to a cleaner Galveston Bay watershed. “The financial catalyst for Trash Bash’s continued success is our committed sponsors,” said Traweek. “They believe in what we are trying to accomplish with our message that prevention is key to controlling litter and we are all responsible to do our part.”
