HOUSTON, TX – Embrace the freedom of the open road and pedal towards a healthier, more sustainable future with the Houston-Galveston Area Council's (H-GAC) Bike Month Challenge. From now until May 31, individuals and organizations across the eight-county Metropolitan Planning Organization—including Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Liberty, Montgomery, and Waller counties—are invited to join the nationwide movement to pedal for change.
H-GAC, in collaboration with Love to Ride, the national event organizer, encourages participants to saddle up for the month-long Bike the Gulf Bike Month Challenge. Engage in friendly competition with riders nationwide and rediscover the exhilaration of cycling. This year, Love to Ride has partnered with The League of American Bicyclists to launch the #MakeEveryRideCount initiative, inviting riders to utilize the Love to Ride app to rate their cycling routes, contributing valuable data to enhance biking infrastructure and safety within communities.
Open to individuals aged 13 and above who reside or work in the eight-county region, this free challenge beckons riders of all stripes—whether solo enthusiasts, community collectives, or workplace cohorts. Upon registration, participants gain access to both local and national leaderboards, vying for Love to Ride's prestigious national prizes, including cash rewards, gift cards, and more.
Every pedal stroke counts towards the prize drawings, whether it's a quick grocery run, a commute to the office, or a leisurely spin along a scenic trail. By logging their rides throughout May, participants not only stand a chance to win coveted prizes but also propel their workplaces up the leaderboard ranks. Organizations can challenge counterparts of similar size, fostering friendly competition, while individual departments within can vie for internal supremacy.
Registration is open now. The Bike Month Challenge ends May 31, 2024.
Participants can also log rides during the campaign by syncing their Love to Ride profiles to the Love to Ride app, Strava, or MapMyRide.
