5. Describe the primary problems to be addressed by the project (Project Need).

The existing facility, between FM 1314 and IH 45 generally consists of a two-lane undivided roadway. The facility had 68 crashes and 2 serious injuries during the period from 2015 to 2017. The truck volume on the facility is roughly 5,372 trucks per day and this represents 11.8% percent of the facility's AADT.

Widen to 4-lane divided roadway

7. Describe the primary outcomes to be achieved by the project (Project Purpose)

The project proposes to widen the SL 336 roadway from a two-lane undivided roadway to a four-lane divided facility. Directions of travel would be separated by a median. Turn lanes would be provided at various locations. A sidewalk would be constructed on the south side of the roadway. It is anticipated that no additional right-of-way (ROW) would be needed to accommodate the proposed improvements. The purpose of the proposed project is to add capacity, construct the roadway to meet current design standards, improve mobility, and improve traffic safety through reduced crashes.

This project adds 2 lanes of capacity to SL 336.  The Conroe Connection "Route 2 South - Lone Star Family Health" utilizes a portion of SL 336 that are within this project's limits (http://www.cityofconroe.org/home/showdocument?id=20555). This project sidewalks and a 15' outside lane to accommodate bicyclists.
