Livable Centers are walkable, mixed-use places that provide multimodal transportation options, improve environmental quality and promote economic development.
Livable Centers publications include background information to offer an overview of the program, tools for planning livable centers in communities, and implementation efforts, including current and past studies.

Through a concentration and a mix of land uses, livable centers allow for greater accessibility by a variety of transportation modes including: walking, bicycling, and transit. This brochure highlights various tools and strategies used to create Livable Centers.
The Livable Centers Program Metrics include general requirements for all Livalbe Centers projects, the prioritization process for Livable Centers studies, study deliverables, and the prioritization process for Livable Centers implementation projects.
H-GAC’s Sustainable Transportation Strategies are based on a vision of a future where everyone in the region has the choice to get where they want to go by walking, biking or taking transit, rather than always relying on their vehicles.

Livable Centers 12-Year Evaluation Table and Local Partner Report Cards
This 2021 Summary Report is an update to the 10-Year Evaluation of the Livable Centers Program completed in the fall of 2019.
Published in 2016, the Instant Impact Guide provides simple and relatively quick solutions to create immediate public interest and excitement for walkable, vibrant places in communities.
Published in 2016, this report looks at benefits of creating Livable Centers, economic impacts, successes, and project cost summaries of implemented Livable Centers projects in the H-GAC area.
Published in 2015, this guide identifies different types of end-of-trip facilities public and private entities can provide to make it easier for visitors and employees to arrive by bike. The guide is organized into three sections, which address bicycle parking (Lock Up), bicycle repair (Tune Up), and changing facilities for cyclists (Clean Up). Case studies from the region and beyond demonstrate how companies are successfully making end-of-trip facilities available for their employees and visitors.
Published in 2012, Pedestrian Pathways: A Planning Guide for the Houston-Galveston Region offers resources for developing and improving the pedestrian environment. The publication includes principles and design guidance.
